The Choir of St John's
is led by a Director of Music and assisted by a number
of volunteers.
Director of Music
Stephen Doughty MMus ARCO LLCM
Stephen has been Director
of Music since June 2001. He conducts the Garleton Singers
in East Lothian, and was previously organist and choirmaster
in Fairmilehead, St Mary's Haddington, and St Mary's Roman
Catholic Cathedral in Edinburgh.
He is an examiner
with the Associated Board, works as an accompanist for
concerts and competitions, and plays organ and harpsichord
for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and BBC Scottish
Symphony Orchestra. Stephen read music at the then Napier
College and the University of Edinburgh.
Assistant Organists
St John's benefits from three assistant organists;
Noel de Jongh, Peter Horsfall and Caroline Cradock;
each of whom (when not singing!) volunteer their expertise
accompanying, rehearsing and conducting the Choir when
required.
Choir Chaplain
The Revd Peter Brand is a non-stipendiary priest
at St John's and chaplain to the Choir. The chaplain maintains
links bewteen the Choir and the church on liturgical issues
and also leads a number of choral services each year.
A number of others in the Choir make sure things run smoothly
from organising the music library, to arranging parties
and the occasional birthday card!
