The Choir of St John's has a large repertoire of music ranging from medieval plainsong to 21st century commissions, and everything in between. Psalms are normally sung to Anglican Chant with hymns from the 'Hymns: Ancient and Modern' hymn book.

St John's Choir has made a number of recordings, including music for evensong by Kenneth Leighton.
The most recent CD was made in February 2010 containing music spanning the church year. It includes a comission by F. Grier 'At the manger Mary sings' and is available for £8 from the church office and Cornerstone Bookshop.
During the Edinburgh Festival month of August, the Choir sings a particulary large repetoire of music including full choral mass settings, frequently accompaned by orchestra.
Services usually following a particular theme or period of music and form part of the the Festival of Spirituality and Peace (FOSP), based at St John's.
